For Nepalese students planning to study in South Korea, document verification is one of the most important steps in the visa application process. Korean universities and immigration authorities require academic documents to be properly verified to confirm their authenticity and prevent the submission of forged or altered documents. The Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Nepal provides a consular verification service for academic documents submitted by Nepalese students applying for study visas.

The verification process generally begins with preparing the required academic documents, such as transcripts, graduation certificates, and other educational credentials. These documents must first be issued by the respective educational institutions and verified by the relevant Nepalese authorities. These includes Nepal Education Board (NEB), Respective Universities, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA). After completing the required government verification procedures, students need to submit their documents for consular verification at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Nepal. The embassy requires an appointment for document verification applications, and the verification process normally takes around 10-14 days. For appointments, students should physically visit the Korean Embassy as per their date of birth and passport number. However, due to the surge in the number of students, the Korean Embassy has temporarily halted distribution of tokens till the month of October.

For the students applying for Bachelor’s degree, the process is as follows:

1. Photocopy at least 3 copies of SEE Certificates (Marksheet and Certificate) and Grade 12 (Transcript and Provisional/Graduation). Graduation certificate for grade 12 has been made mandatory for Grade 12 students, however NEB provides it only after 6 months of completion. Therefore, you can apply for South Korea with the provisional certificate within one year of graduation. The total cost at NEB is Rs. 1500 irrespective of number of sets.
2. Then the same set of documents should be verified at the Ministry of Education located at Sanothimi. They won’t charge for the verification.
3. The third step is visiting Ministry of Foreign Affairs at Tripureshwor. They charge Rs. 500 per document so calculate how many documents you need to verify before predicting the final figure.
4. Finally, you need to submit the documents to the Korean Embassy located at Ravibhawan in the date and time allotted. As per the recent price hike, the Embassy charges you Rs. 620 per set. Students normally need to verify 2 sets for bachelor level.

Regarding Master’s degree students, it is summarized as below:

1. In most of the universities, students need to verify the documents of only Bachelor degree but if you wish to verify the documents till grade 12, you may continue.
2. There are various universities in Nepal from where a student might graduate like Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu University, Pokhara University and so on. In this regard, the documents (Transcript and Provisional/Graduation Certificates) should be verified from its respective departments. The cost differs in each university. For example, the documents for verification from TU costs Rs. 50 per document.
3. After that, it should be verified from the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Foreign Affairs before submitting it to the Embassy. Costs are as discussed above.

For the doctorate levels, the documents from the bachelor and master’s level must be verified and the process to verify is similar to other levels.

Note:

• If you have graduated from India, then you need not go through the above verification process. However, the documents must be attested from the attorneys of the respective countries.
• If you have graduated from UK based universities, then the verification process must start from The British Council, Lainchaur, Kathmandu, Nepal. Then the regular verification from MOE, MOFA and ultimately The Korean Embassy.
• The Graduation Certificate for grade 12 is issued from NEB, Sanothimi that costs a student Rs. 1000. The students must take photocopies of transcript, copy of citizenship and a photo. Similarly, graduation certificate for bachelor and master level are issued from the respective university departments.

For student visa applications, verified academic documents are essential. Students applying for D-2 or other long-term study visas must submit embassy-verified educational documents along with other required materials. Nepali documents that are not in English or Korean generally need to be translated into English, notarized, and submitted together with the original documents.

Students should carefully complete the verification process before submitting their visa application because any submission of fraudulent, altered, or unauthenticated documents may result in visa rejection and restrictions on future visa applications. Therefore, starting the document verification process early and following the official guidelines is highly recommended for a smooth study journey to South Korea.
